Our news sources impact how we see the world. As a result, staying within our own opinion "echo chambers" may limit our understanding of complex issues and may contribute to polarization. In the spirit of depolarizing our community and bringing people together, we invite you to “Walk a Mile in My News".
This exciting, Braver Angels experience pairs Blue-leaning and Red-leaning individuals for a three-week journey to share news sources and information about mutually agreed-upon subjects. The goal for participants is to:
Explore subjects with a red/blue partner by exchanging news sources and engaging in respectful dialogue.
Better understand how people with different political perspectives form their views and opinions.
Explore potential bias in our own news sources.
Build relationships with people of different political views.
Discover areas of commonality.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
Register to participate in the program. You will be asked to fill out a short survey to help us match you. Note: While anyone is eligible to participate, priority will be given to local registrants.
The program coordinators will assemble pairs before the Kickoff meeting, and introduce the partners to one another via email a day or two before then.
Attend the Kickoff meeting. At the Kickoff, you will meet the other individuals participating in the program, review the program guidelines, and ask questions. You will meet your Walk A Mile partner and have a first get-acquainted meeting. Attendance at the Kickoff is required.
The Oakland/Berkely/San Francisco Alliance
Join us for an ONLINE discussion about the range of reactions to the Kirk assassination. The media was filled with strong emotional content that moved from glee about the loss of life to abject sorrow and everything in between. Some people have even suggested we are headed toward another civil war!
What was your reaction to Charlie Kirk's death? And what do you think it suggests about the future of America?
All attendees will be assigned to smalll group facilitated breakout rooms. We will explore this topic by thinking deeply about the following questions:
How does rhetoric drive political violence? What is being said that makes some people think we are headed toward civil war?
Can the human instinct toward tribalism and vigilante justice be overcome?
Braver Angels promotes that we be curious about people and ideas we don't understand! Can curiosity overcome the darkest of human instincts? Is that enough to fend off civil war?

Tired of political conversations that leave people divided and discouraged?
Join us for an engaging and hopeful event that shows a better way. Braver Angels is a national, nonpartisan movement working to bridge the political divide through respectful, structured dialogue. At this session, you’ll learn about the Braver Angels approach and take part in interactive small-group conversations on timely issues like artificial intelligence and housing—conversations designed not to “win” an argument, but to understand one another and build connections across differences.
Come experience firsthand how politics can be less polarizing and more productive—and how you can be part of creating that change here in Cupertino and beyond. This event is free and open to all. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
