Our news sources impact how we see the world. As a result, staying within our own opinion "echo chambers" may limit our understanding of complex issues and may contribute to polarization. In the spirit of depolarizing our community and bringing people together, we invite you to “Walk a Mile in My News".
This exciting, Braver Angels experience pairs Blue-leaning and Red-leaning individuals for a three-week journey to share news sources and information about mutually agreed-upon subjects. The goal for participants is to:
Explore subjects with a red/blue partner by exchanging news sources and engaging in respectful dialogue.
Better understand how people with different political perspectives form their views and opinions.
Explore potential bias in our own news sources.
Build relationships with people of different political views.
Discover areas of commonality.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
Register to participate in the program. You will be asked to fill out a short survey to help us match you.
Attend the Kickoff meeting. At the Kickoff, you will be introduced to your Walk A Mile In My News partner, review the program guidelines, and ask questions. Attendance at the Kickoff is required.
Have conversations with your partner: The pairs will meet between the Kickoff and the Reunion. Together, you decide what schedule works best, the topics to cover, and how much time to spend together. Guidelines are provided, and reviewed during the Kickoff, to help facilitate your meetings. If you happen to live within geographic proximity and want to meet in person, by all means do! Otherwise, your meetings will take place by phone or video conference that you arrange.
Attend the Reunion meeting. Attendance at the Reunion is optional but strongly encouraged. Pairs will have an opportunity to share inspiration, challenges, learnings, and potential commonalities.
If you know someone on the opposite side of the partisan divide who you think would like to join you in this experience, please invite them, and also let us know below that you would like to be paired with them.

We plan to have a rip-roaring discussion about the lagging trust in the Democratic Party. We know that both REDS and BLUES and everybody in between has opinions and there is a lot to say on this topic! To be able to enjoy the freedoms of a competently governed republic, we need two strong political parties that can work together! How can the Democrats gain back their credibility? How can they improve their messaging? Who might emerge as a leader - a force mulitplier that can restore the party and the public's trust. Will they listen to ALL the people or just some? Or will they continue down the road to ruin?! What do you think?
JOIN US on Zoom in facilitated breakout rooms. Speak your mind and be heard!
Your Zoom link will he included in the 3 reminder notices that you will receive from eventbrite during the week that preceeds this discussion event. The title line in your inbox will say Braver Angels.
IN PERSON
Note: This *FREE*event is to be attended in person
Join us for a friendly and intellectually engaging experience you won't find anywhere else! Listen to speeches for or against the resolution—and then share your own, if you feel so moved. (And there's no pressure, but we hope you will!)
Here's the night's topic:
Resolved: We need the Dept of Government Efficiency (DOGE)
Note: This resolution does not represent Braver Angels' stance on the issue. We will alternate between speeches in support of and against the resolution.
A Braver Angels debate is about the heart as much as the head. It's a highly structured conversation in which a group of people think together, listen to one another carefully and with curiosity, and allow themselves to be touched by each other’s ideas. It's not a political debate, nor is it like your high school debate club. It's our own depolarizing debate system, and it works best when we embrace our uncertainty and parse the shades of grey together. When we manage to do this, we walk out of a Braver Angels debate a little closer to the truth, more aware of the sincere and sympathetic feelings of our political opponents, with our relationships a little stronger.
To learn more about our debates, you can take a look at our quick start guide and this video about the spirit of a Braver Angels Debate.
