A frank, thoughtful conversation about immigration
Join Stanford students and community members from across generations for a frank, thoughtful conversation about immigration at a moment when the topic feels especially urgent nationwide. We’ll take up questions like how to meet labor and skills needs while supporting local employment, how to secure our borders while improving our increasingly unworkable legal immigration system, and how to invest limited tax dollars in ways that reflect our values.
We’ll also look at how immigration policies shape daily life in our communities—what fairness and dignity mean in practice, and how all of this connects to deeper questions of identity and culture in a nation formed by immigrants. Together, we’ll ask, “What ties us together as a nation?”
The morning begins with a skill-building workshop on navigating challenging conversations—practical skills for listening across differences, sharing personal stories, and staying engaged when issues are complex or contentious.
Multi-generational discussions will follow, welcoming a wide range of perspectives and lived experiences, asking not only “Where are we now?” but “Can we imagine a better way forward?”
All viewpoints offered with respect are welcome. Come to connect, learn, and explore possibilities together.

Discuss Vance's comment that America is a Christian nation. What does that mean to you?
Join us online to discus what you think about the nexus of religion and politics. In our breakout rooms we’ll address questions such as:
1) When you hear the term “Christian Nation”, what does that mean to you?
2)How do your religious, moral, spiritual values influence your political views?
3) How would you like to see religious values influence public policy?
For more context to Vance’s comment, the following link is a 6-minute video segment of Vance’s speech: HERE.

Join a politically diverse group and work to find common ground on values, concerns, and solutions on immigration and engage with our Reps.
Would you like to influence Congress to do something to address immigration?
This workshop is part of the Citizens Commision on Immigration, a national Braver Angels effort to engage Congress on the topic of immigration.
Workshop Goals:
To delve into the topic of immigration and learn how people with different political perspectives view the issues
To delineate areas of common ground and points of agreement
To learn something that might be helpful to others in our community and the nation
To participate in a follow up meeting on immigration with congressional representatives
This Common Ground Workshop will bring together equal numbers of Red-leaning and Blue-leaning participants (4-8 of each) - for a deep dive into immigration. Participants talk about their connection to the issue and their opinion on solutions. The end result of the 6 hour event is a document that identifies unanimously held points of agreement on values, concerns and policies.
